2478 Impacts to Support Van Puller
2478 Impacts to Support Van Puller
In November, 2,478 lives were impacted through a project that’s giving van pullers in Bangladesh the chance to own their own vans — breaking free from crushing debt and creating opportunities that ripple through families and communities.

What’s the project all about?
Van pullers in Bangladesh transport people and goods using bicycle-powered vans. Most don’t own their vans — they rent them at exorbitant rates, leaving them trapped in debt and unable to move out of the slums.
This project gives these men the chance to own their own van. Over two years, they repay half the cost, making the program sustainable while transforming their financial independence.
Why it matters?
Owning a van means every cent earned is profit. It means no more rental fees, no more endless debt. It means the chance to send children to school instead of work, move out of the slums, and even start new businesses.
In fact, a survey of drivers who joined this program over the past 15 years showed incredible results:
- All were out of debt
- Many built homes and started businesses
- Children went to school instead of working
The bigger picture
This project is part of a broader community development program centered on education and empowerment. By giving families the tools to earn and thrive, we’re helping break the cycle of poverty for good.
